I bit the bullet and booked flights to PLS next April. I have no idea where to stay or what to do, and the choice was simply because the wife mentioned she wanted to go. :)

Any major hotel chains have a presence out there? I can't find anything for SPG / Hilton / Hyatt, so I might have to *gasp* forgo earning points and go with a boutique / luxury place.

Find a boutique Bed & Breakfast. Go Sailing, Fishing, or Scuba Diving! I loved Provo I'd like to go back for the Conch Fritters!

    It's very expensive there though.

We stayed on Providenciales at an all-inclusive (not a fan but the deal through skyauction.com was far too good to pass up). If the boutique/lux is too pricey, take a look at the AIs.
The coral reefs off of Providenciales were the most pristine that we've dove in the Caribbean and many other places, just amazing. (so if you are a newbie diver or snorkeler, PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE REEFS w/your hands, fins, etc etc)

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone...

As far as "activities" go, they don't fall within my idea of a vacation... :) Personally I consider going as far as the pool and hanging out with a few drinks. Every now and then -- depending on where I am -- I'll head into town and do some shopping. The whole business of snorkel, scuba, fishing and the like are entirely too much work as I'm too lazy -- and I'm on vacation. :)

We've done the occasional boat charter and leisure cruise, so I'll explore that though. But nobody needs to worry about me touching any sort of reefs... I'll walk and hang out by the beach, but that's about it. :)

And thanks for the skyauction suggestion Sweet Willie, I didn't know about them so I'll keep an eye out.

At the time of the trip our son will be almost 3, so that means he needs to come along and the place needs to be at least reasonably family-friendly, so I'll look around and see what my options are.
