I am a newby and am looking for the most efficient way of scoring max miles for a trip to the Maldives by summer next year. Any suggestions on best approach?

    Search the blogs recently.
I recall reading a few things about it

OW - Cathay & Qatar; Eithad is also bookable via AA miles.
    SA - Turkish & Singapore.

We used United miles (either direct United CC signup bonuses or Chase CC signup bonuses and transfered points to United) and will fly into the Male, Maldives-MLE from Singapore-SIN on Singapore Airlines. For the outbound we booked MLE to Istanbul-IST on Turkish Airlines.

Also Austrian (OS) flies seasonally from Vienna to Male... (*A). Quite challenging to find award tickets though...

Korean Air also flies there now (Korean Air is a Ultiamte Rewads Partner).

My wiofe and I are going this summer and using British Airways Avios to go from Chicago to Tokyo. a mixture of Starwood Points and American Express Membership Rewards points to fly Singapore Airlines from Tokyo to the Maldives. And then American Airlines miles to fly home on Etihad.

Off the top of my head some airlines that fly there are:

    Malaysia Airliens (oneworld alliance)
    Cathay Pacific (oneworld alliance)
    British Airways (oneworld alliance)
    Qatar Airways (oneworld alliance)
    Etihad (American Airlines partner)
    Korean Air (skyteam alliance)
    Singapore Airlines (star alliance)
    Turkish Air (star alliance)
Emirates (no alliance but there are ways to get miles to them)
