Looking to buy a new tripod for my DSLR. My wish list:

    - stable
    - reasonably lightweight
    - price < $250

I am not a professional photographer, so I don't want to spend a fortune (or spend a lot of time becoming a tripod expert). Lightweight because I don't expect to use it very often, but if it was too heavy, I would probably be even less likely to bring it along.

    Thanks!

    Manfrotto good brand,
B&H has a good selection, in the 250 or less range,
    Free ship no sales tax.

They make a travel tripod at 200, wt 3# and folds to 15 inches.
    Hide it in your luggage

    Thanks, satman40.

I read through the Tripod thread on Flyertalk: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-photography/968547-travel-tripod-recommendation-3.html

and ended up dropping by Costco and picking up this one: http://www.costco.com/Dolica-Prolin...-with-Ball-Head-Bundle-.product.11746472.html

A bit bigger/heavier than I ideally would have liked, but the price is right and it seems reasonably stable. Ratings on Costco.com and Amazon.com are good. An alternative I consider(ed) is this one: http://www.amazon.com/MeFoto-Travel-Tripod-Titanium-A0350Q0T/dp/B00820A86Q/ Smaller, lightweight, but twice the price (still easily in my range) and perhaps not tall enough for comfort.
