A video of a sideways approach to landing during strong crosswinds was captured last Thursday (2014/11/06) at ORD. I had to watch it several times to fully admire the captain's skills!

Well landed. Took skill for that IMHO.

I will go out on a limp and say this is not a "instrument landing".
    Great job on the pilots.

I will go out on a limp and say that I don't want to be onboard a plane doing such a landing.

Without good piloting skills here, a lot of folks might have gone out on a limp. Or just gone out, too.

When the original video ends, there's many more to see of some wild crosswind landings. Click on the box on the upper left to see many more, on a windy day at (I think) Manchester, UK. Also shows some takeoffs with the crosswinds affecting the planes even before they've left the ground. Lots of great piloting skills are evident. No WIMPS there.
