    Hi folks,

can anybody recommend to me a nice hotel in Doha? Looking for $100-200 USD a night mid to end of March.

Any must do's you can think of in Doha - I will have quite some time there.

Would you recommend a day trip to Bahrain?

    Thank you all!

Just booked the Amari for 16 nights at $124 per night plus upgrade to the next room and free breakfast buffet - I will keep you guys updated how it was. The selling point was the price plus the pool :p (image from the hotel website)

I also requested a status match with their loyalty program Chorus based on HHonors Gold and Priority Club Platinum - lets see what their answer is :)

the Amari is a good bet for $124, some popular hotels have had some deals recently Movenpick + Hyatt on kayak or another hotel search, might be more deals, lots of competition these days if you spend up near $200

for a budget option I think Encore is a decent choice, avoid Mercure

the Art Museum is halfway interesting, Doha is rather dull IMO

I noticed that Marriott offers very decent award rates for it's Marriott and Courtyard brands (cat. 3 & 2 respectively, to be flipped in April to cat's 2 & 3). Can anyone with Doha experience advise which one of them would be preferable?

Follow up question, is Doha large enough or traffic a concern, that one should NOT consider certain hotels/areas as they are too far away from the airport for a one day/night stay?

Central Doha is fairly compact, and all hotels are about 15 min cab ride from/to the airport. Traffic is generally light and civilized by middle east standards. I ended up staying in the Marriott in 2014. It was comfortable and conviniently attached to a shopping mall, where you can grab some fast food.

There was a truely authentic bazar (Souk Waqif) with an upscale mall nearby. It's a pleasant area to spend some time with many nice restaurants -- about a 10 min cab ride from central Doha or a 30 min walk along the embankment. Boat rides from the Souk to central Doha were also available. I didn't try them -- opted for a walk.
