After reading posts about flyers using TA's to book complicated itineraries, it seems like a good option to have especially for the creative routes. What kind of questions should I ask or what should I look for when looking for a TA who may be an MR specialist? The few TA's that I've dealt with in the past I wouldnt trust to use mapquest to get me from home to work.

and what about opening a Milepoint travel agency??
I'm sure we could find any TA around here to work for the very busiest people that need help in this forum!!
I've passed the exams to become a TA here in Italy many years ago, then my plans changed from that time, but I could be helpful for the project.. just in case ;)

Wouldnt an MR specialist agency be fantastic? you would think sales would be easy. It would all be CPM driven and you would havent to deal with the crap of recommending to the family of 6 where to go on a trip. You would cater to professional flyers and all you would have to do would be to build specialized itineraries to take advantage of status and cpm. Not a bad racket if you had enough clients. I would envision it being something where the agent would call you randomly to say

" Hey, got an MR for you, .02 cpm, dont worry where or what"

Client: "Great, I'll book 5 of them over the next 6 weeks"

Don't forget that TAs need to make a living and if they do not charge a service fee, they are not earning anything in fact. That said, charging a service fee could destroy the economics of a MR(domestic -wise) unless you are talking of international itineraries where the creative mileage you get would not hurt the CPM for MPM fares.

Of course. Its all a numbers game. If a TA makes an MR goe from 2.5 to 4.0cpm but they can get me something I can't then I'll be glad to pay the premium.

I absolutely love your home city. We spent 4 or 5 days there this past summer and had a wonderful time. Stayed at the Al Ponte Antico right in the shadow of the Rialto. My wife wants to go back in the near future for Carnivale. How is it in the winters?

I think that Venice is amazing in every period of the year, 'cause she's magic even if there's the typical Oct/Nov fog, as she's become so magic reminding me about the Serenissima's time.
The Carnival is amazing as well, but you know, high prices, million of people....
So I think that Venice is magic when you can enjoy it without confusion, when everything is slow, as you can walk around at night with no fear...
So for good deals and great atmosphere I say OCT/NOV
For fun I think Carnival (that begins today) is great
For good days of sunshine spring and early summer

What is the weather like in OCT/NOV? The only time I have been there was in July, and it was a bit hot and fragrant for my taste, I would like to go back and see it at its best.

I'm a TA and an MR specialist (I've put together quite a few 16 segment MRs in my time) so feel free to PM me if you need assistance on any fare.

TAs like myself also get commission on most intl itineraries so they don't always have to charge a service fee.

I'm a business travel agent and have booked many segment runs for myself and friends. However, I can't book for others as we do not cater travellers who don't have a contract with the our company. A few years ago I was negotiating with the management to be able to sell private trips on the side, but it never happened unfortunately. We have new management now so will try again later this year.

We went in November and it was perfect. Beautiful, sunny, uncrowded, and temperate. We wore light jackets which in my mind beats the heck out of being too hot. We love to travel to Europe in the spring and fall and stay home in the summer. This year, however, our daughter has talked us in to a family trip to Croatia in July. I am dreading it.

If you need any help, just PM me. I'm a travel agent as well and can book for anyone ;)
Unfortunately, in Europe TAs won't get much commission from the airlines :(

But there can be fun in getting to Europe...the Travel Coordinator where I work is working on getting a PVD-ATL-LAX-AMS-BRU as well as PVD-DTW-LAX-MEX.

What would really make it perfect would be a TA on here that could also accept UA bump vouchers [IMG]

A good idea but how would a TA make any money creating cheapo MR's? Well, maybe have an annual service fee? I'd go for that!

I would definitely be interested in a TA that could help me do mileage run bookings. Wouldn't mind paying a fee, if it isn't too high. I'm sure the person could make up enough in volume here on MP!

Actually, all you really need is an ARC/IATA number so that you can log into the GDS and then create your own itineraries.

2 questions, How do you get the ARC/IATA# and then how do you bill or pay for it?

I suppose this should be a good starting point, but I think in the most basic sense some training is required
