I'm not sure what would separate good from bad, except a safety record. The whole trip is just a bus ride by LHR and the suburbs into the unremarkable countryside for a one-hour walk around the rocks. My tour had no guide, and more to the point, I had no questions about anything I saw along the way. (Stonehenge itself has an audio guide.)

If you want to make good use of the excursion time—you'll spend up to 90 minutes just getting from Central London to Stonehenge—go for a package that includes a trip to Bath or Windsor Castle.

I took the train to Bath and spent several days there in a charming hotel and tried some good (new British) restaurants. Bath is well worth seeing. My hotel arranged for a private car and driver to take me to Stonehenge as it's difficult to get there by public transportation and I wasn't eager to drive on the wrong side of the road.

I did a tour that included Bath, Stonehenge and another castle on a bus trip.
