Yeah, I know. I am befuddled by several of the choices in several of the cities. Not quite sure what criteria they're using, but interesting points to consider. Haven't seen listed many hotels of the chains a point hog would use.

In Australia the one at the top is staying in a tent at Taronga Zoo, another one is a Backpackers.
    Very strange. [IMG]

I'm sorry, I cannot take this list seriously. It may be the most popular, or in some cases, someone rated the establishment well.

When you have college residences (Toronto), a zoo (Sydney) and hostels in the list, its more likely to be targeted to a broad range of travellers (and there is nothing wrong with that), but the definition of 'BEST' by the journalists appears to be lacking.

Everyone would list Formule 1 in Sampa as one of the ten best. [IMG] Other than the highly idiosyncratic lists it would seem that the Guardian is in search of terminal loss of credibility. They're doing nicely if that is the goal. Holiday Inn Express? hostels?

It's a good article - the headline is wildly inaccurate and misleading, of course. "Ten Distinctive and Quirky City Hotels" or "Ten Off The Beaten Path Lodging Options" would be much more apt headlines.
