I'm looking to expand our dinner menu ideas at home. If you had a good dinner or are planning a good dinner, what's on your menu?

Tonight we had burgers and a new menu item in our house: fried eggplant sprinkled with rosemary and dipped in honey.

Are you sure it's a duck and not a chicken?

Absolutely. The meat looks and tastes different.

That's true. Chicken tastes like rattlesnake.

No chicken tastes like ostrich and alligator.

How do you serve it? We have a blueberry sauce that we often make when we serve duck breast.

Yes, both purchased and cooked by me.

The blueberry sauce sounds good, but I serve it just simply grilled with some vegetables. I guess I could get fancy and slice it on the bias, like magret de canard is usually presented, but I didn't.

Chicken tastes nothing like ostrich, though
it might taste like alligator in a pinch.

Tonight I have no idea what I'm having for dinner. Last
night it was chicharron. De puerco, of course.

    Tomorrow night:
Squash blossoms stuffed with herbed goat cheese. (blossoms from our own garden)
Marinated chicken (they'll probably taste a lot like marinated frog legs)
    Squash croquets
    Serrano-wrapped cantaloupe
    and probably some more corn

    tonignt

    soft-shell crabs with scapes
    categories: shellfish, main
    servings: 4

10 oz garlic scapes, washed, sliced 1"
    lots of oil
    12 soft-shell crabs, cleaned
    cornstarch
    ground pepper
1/2 c amontillado or other dryish sherry

Saute the scapes in 1/2 c oil until done. Drain thoroughly
but retain the oil for flavoring. Remove to a 170F/80C oven.

Combine cornstarch and pepper. Pat crabs dry and dredge
in cornstarch. Let stand a few minutes and dredge in
    cornstarch again.

Heat a sufficiency of oil, maybe 3/4" depth, to 350F/175C
in a large frying pan over high heat. Add some scape oil.
Fry 4 crabs at a time: start upside down, after 2 min,
turn right-side up, and then after 1 more min, turn upside
down again. Remove crabs when crisp to a paper-towel-lined
ovenproof dish and deposit in 170F/80C oven. Remove detritus
as necessary from frying pan and add fresh oil, adding more
scape oil for flavoring. Repeat until all crabs are used.

Drain oil from pan. Return pan to heat and add sherry. Heat
    to a sauce consistency.

Arrange crabs right side up on a platter. Pour scapes over
and then drizzle sherry sauce over all.

Source: someone presented me with various ingredients
    and said, go for it.

A left over piece of fried chicken. (store bought, not one of my chickens, so don't worry)
    A cheese sandwich.
An ear of good Illinois sweet corn.
A piece of cake that Mrs. Gargoyle brought home from a nephew's birthday party this weekend.

You're having a Walt Disney cartoon for dinner?

Homemade pizza with shrimp, artichoke hearts, roasted red pepper, and a pesto sauce.

Our squash plants are doing better since moving them into a shadier area. Looks like we'll have some more squash blossoms this coming week.

Pizza is all gone! That's our usual recipe when we cook pizza at home. 1/2 lb of shrimp. We tried a different crust tonight, though. I forgot to mention that we also put goat cheese on it. (And grated mozzarella or a blend of grated cheeses.)

Tonight it's garlic bread, linguini with clam sauce and broccoli- most of it leftovers from dinner over the weekend.

Tonight, we had fresh sockeye salmon wrapped and baked in phyllo dough with a shallot and dill filling. And a bottle of prosecco. A really simple meal to make.
