I'm flying VIE to AMS on KLM and on to MSP on DL in December on a weekday. Delta has made several schedule changes resulting in my connection at AMS being shortened to only 50 min. I've never been through AMS before. Is this connection realistically doable, or do I need to try to make alternative arrangements?
There is or was an expedited transit between Schengen and non-Schengen, and the MCT for intercons is 50 minutes. So you might make it, but you know what? I'd try for something less nerve-wracking.
I think it's plausible. You don't need to make alternative arrangements now, but you may wish to. It depends on your preferences for attempting a tight connection and potentially having a long unplanned layover at AMS v. scheduling a longer layover now. If the obvious rescheduling options result in a longish layover (>2 hrs.) or are otherwise unpleasant, I'd definitely leave things as they are.
I spoke w/ my travel agent, and we'll leave it for now. Delta will probably change the schedule a few more times. My main concern is that I'm in a party of 3 on an M fare w/ an uprade w/ miles to OP in BE. I'm afraid of losing the upgrade and being reaccomodated in Y after paying all the extra money for the M fare.
VIE-AMS is on the other side of Passport and security check. I'll say you'll probably be arriving at concourse B. And DL typically parks at Concourse D & E.
I doubt KL/DL will do that ! You will be accommodated in a similar product i.e KLM's Business; or might overnight you (I doubt, but then if they do, and it ain't raining, AMS during christmas evenings/night is magically pretty It aint NYC but I digress)
I recently had to make that decision on a DL flight. Although I wanted to go through AMS that 50 minutes just didn't sit well with me. I opted for a different route since the only thing through AMS was 50 minutes.
I just got back from the trip. I left the flight as is and made the connection with time to spare. I do think I'll try to avoid AMS if at all possible in the future. That place is a mess!
AMS, for all the perceived busy-ness, and swarming ants like pax movements - is pretty efficient. Unless, coming from Nordic-countries where, KLM uses CityHopper and parks you in B and then heading to gates in G
I remember sprinting through Amsterdam airport to make a connecting flight from AMS to Calgary. I was the last person on the plane and they waited for me. It was stressful.
