    Hi

I am currently holding an Air Canada points redemption from JFK to NRT (NH9). It is currently in C, but the reward is otherwise in F (onward to BKK, FRA, and then JFK). My plan is to look closer in to my departure day (within the week) to see if F becomes available.

Does NH9 often release a F seat for redemption close in? Or, would it make more sense to route via ORD, where I often see an F seat free a few days before departure.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

I think your best bet is routing via ORD where the F availability is better as you mentioned. Do you by any chance have any NH elite status?

How bad is the fee for a change like this (assuming no status and a low miles award)?

Looking for 1 F seat, there's a good chance of NH9 opening a few days prior to departure.

If you're going to reroute be sure to do it > 21 days prior to departure.

    Aeroplan change fee CAD$90.

Thanks for the thoughts on this Gary. Why > 21 days for a reroute (I am also thinking of going OZ instead).

If you want to change routing on an Aeroplan reward, you must do it > 21 days out. Otherwise you can only change dates.

Of course, the workaround would be inside 21 days to change your dates (change fee) and then change your routing, (change fee) but then you potentially need to change your dates again (change fee!) to be back within 21 days!

Thanks for that! I have booked nearly a dozen miniRTWs and never knew that.

Here is a question for everyone. Would you risk Staggered J on NH9 hoping for F, or take OZ F via ICN? I am travelling alone.

OZ F is wonderful. I love NH food, but OZ F food is REALLY close (though very different). The F amenities are better. I never turn down an opportunity to fly OZ F, even if the seats aren't going to be as good as the new NH F seats.

Y'know what, now I think I'm insane. Might be the cold medicine :(

You cannot cancel and redeposit within 21 days.

But you can change the routing prior to departure.
Sorry for spacing on you :)
