    I believe one of the reasons why things are going south is because "gamers" brag to the world about their conquests and sometimes, companies do take actions to reduce these opportunities :(

    Agreed, WilliamQ! For example, all of the changes brought about by United Airlines in the past 3-4 years or so appear to have been in direct response to travel bloggers reporting their "free rides" on or through the UA system. As a result, almost all of those perks have been blocked or changed so that it's now "pay to play" when flying on UA. It's gone so much over to a for-profit business model that it's not so difficult to find less expensive flights elsewhere.
