Strange why the BAEC forum is the busiest in Flyertalk yet in Milepoint continues to be the weakest.

Surely the Milepoint bosses must be aware of this and should be pulling out all the stops to attract new traffic to the forum?

The forum users aren't responsible for delivering traffic...although, many of the BA EC members would benefit from free speech and the incisive and counterorthodoxical analysis of the Shark :)

Must be worrying for them though. Considering the amount of Avios account holders there are in the world not to have a bustling BAEC forum doesn't look very good.Or is it just that Milepoint is very much US centric and doesn't fit in with the British intellect?

Or because BA's surcharges turn off many who would seek to use Avios, and thus turn off those who would seek to earn Avios? I know that this is the case for myself, and I imagine for others as well.

Quite the reverse actually hence the boom in the Flyertalk BAEC forum participation figures over last year. On Milepoint participation has decreased monthly since the early days.

Yeah, it must be the misfit with the British intellect. ;)

How does the volume in other MP forums compare to the equivalent FT forums? I have the feeling (but no numbers to prove it) that the BAEC forum isn't unique in that regard.

Haven't the foggiest to be honest. I heard the FT BAEC forum figures from a Mod.

I doubt that BA is the quietest in absolute terms, although it may be the quietest relative to the passenger base. I also keep an eye on the QF board, where one post was made yesterday (10 January), quickly following on from the next most recent post which was made on 14 December. One post every four weeks doesn't make for very active discussion.

It is notable that there are few threads here discussing topics that involve flying on BA. That's a particular contrast with FT, so the quietness here doesn't indicate empty BA aircraft.

But looking more widely at MilePoint, the early pattern remains set. The airline boards have 386,120 posts. Of these, 200,210 reside in just three threads on the UA board, which has only 244,963 posts in total. And in fact, those three threads are actually just three consecutive parts of the same thread, so arguably over 80% of the UA posts are in one thread.

And Off Topic/Social has 760,763 posts, of which 648,973 reside in just 8 threads.

It's not surprising that nobody has time to post much anywhere else.

I for one have virtually no posts in those three UA forum threads ("Teh Penalty Box", right?), even though I am primarily a UA flyer. And virtual no posts in Off Topic/Social either.

    Interesting numbers, though.

If BA pulled a TK and offered a seemingly interminable status match, I'd be so in this forum...

The worst miles ever: QF and BA. *barf*

  12. FT has been the standard for Travel sites like this. On the AC board it has become a whiners haven for those who love to dislike or hate AC. MP has tried to establish a different approach and it will take more time for this to take hold and make it the new standard.

Perhaps. But MilePoint's been here for two years now. If a board like QF is attracting one post every four weeks, how long will it take before it becomes "the new standard"?

Or will "the new standard" be a Trappist one?

  15. "Trappist monk" this is not. I think Randy and team are probably still putting the real building blocks in place

I'm sure that we can all wait for Great Original Developments Of Tomorrow (© Samuel Beckett).

But I think that's exactly what EZEIZA was pointing out. Everyone's already mostly diverted elsewhere, and that's why this board is so quiet.

Only if people do not disembark at the diversion point and continue their journeys by other means. However, that's exactly what seems to have happened here.

A modest fee to get excellent availability.

I just flew BA between Christmas and New Years from the Persian Gulf back to NY...family of four...all on the same flight...F in one segment, J in another...all on points.

Yes, I had to pay a co-pay, but saved a boat load compared to tickets that I would have otherwise purchased.
