Shocking that people don't wish to spend 700 GBP per night for a 3 star hotel. Who would ever have guessed?

Totally predictable if you're not some ignorantly optimistic government bureaucrat. I warned people away. But maybe I can get a last minute sale now that they've realized the goof. :D

    My thought also.
When you have to cash in your 401K, donate blood for money and steal from your employer to afford a hotel room, yes people choose to stay away.

As we all know people go to great lengths to achieve something, even by securing that hotel room!:)

A 3 star hotel in London would be called a closet in America

Perhaps the Saudi Princess who doesn't like to pay will find her way to London.

The Gatwick Crowne Plaza was on the most recent Priority Club Pointsbreak list for several days. At 5K per night that worked out to an equivalent cash rate of about $35. This hotel also has a good track record of offering Club access to PC Platinums.

If you dig a bit there are quite a few London hotels in the major chains that, while nominally showing rack rates during the Olympics that have doubled or tripled, have normal points redemptions that are no longer being blacked out during late July and early August.

Last year I was able to book the Sheraton Park Lane for 5 nights during the opening - using points. Not a bad deal.
