In recent years, flying first class has lost its luxury lustre, to the point where we’re not even sure if it’s still worth the money.

But for those who are set on having the best at 30,000 feet, it’s good to know which airlines to choose.

For 15 years, the World Travel Awards have been selecting the “World’s Leading Airline” for flying first class.

Etihad Airlines has won every year since 2008, including 2012. But the eight other nominees have great things to offer as well.

You’d be hard-pressed to find better service, better food, or more comfortable settings than in the first class cabins you’re about to see.

I always love these lists. they leave out the service factor which can be just as important. Also where is Oman Air or Jet Airways on that list?

...AA as one of the best F seats? Seriously?

Always good to remember when reading these that there is no requirement that the author has ever actually traveled in first class, and in this case it is quite clear they based it just off airline marketing materials.

Don't get me wrong...love to fly and to do so up front...that said, does anyone else think some of this can be ostentatious at times? ;)

It gets downright ridiculous at times. I'm amazed people actually live lifestyles that permit them to pay for such things (and actually make the choice to do so!).

I think some spend as much as I do all year for some flights in F!

SQ Suites even impressed Mrscove so much she got me to put her sister and our niece on for a ride. Point redemptions at their finest.

Maybe I should've listened to my parents and did better in school, so I could'be been successful and afford F/C fares :p:D

Nice...flown 5/9 of these, all on miles of course. :D But what happened to LH or LX? Their (new) F products easily blow away players like AA. The LH F seat (A380) is one of the most comfortable beds I've flown in, even if it isn't a suite like EK/EY/SQ.

And that MH pic definitely needs updating.

I like that seat. Enjoy the swivel and feel like I'm Capt. Kirk commanding the Enterprise! It's very comfortable too. Yes, it's old and not the traditional lay flat, but almost as comfortable and relaxing as my Panasonic massage chair I'm sitting in at the moment, thinking about my SQ Suites flights in two week's time!

  15. I think the thrill of landing in a different part of the world is more enjoyment than the seat I have to get there. AC executive first which I have flown twice to Asia in the last 10 weeks on upgrades is more than good enough. I have been in F a number of times but it's not something I strive for.
A great hotel is more of what I want when speaking about first class.

I like Air Canada's business class. It is essentially the same as the first class of other airlines, but 40% less cost.

I'm hearing more and more people brag about Air Canada and how good the planes and pricing is. I need to check with them more.

No... it isn't. It's a serviceable truly flat Business class seat... which is fine.

But exactly WHICH airlines First Class is it "essentially the same as"?

I guess new F on the LH 744 doesn't count since it's actually a seat and a bed. But for my money, er.... UA miles.... it was pretty darn good.

I loved the Dom Perignon and the KRUG champagnes so I have some of each. Then the offer of caviar on my breakfast scrambled eggs was a real taste sensation on SQ Suites. Have done 8 flights and have booked more.
Did I mention the French red?
