The US DO (It could happen, it *will* happen*)

So, there has been a brief discussion on the US Lounge about possibly having a US DO in PHX. But, the question is, what time of the year would be better to get the most amount of people to come and join us...

I was thinking about possibly Late Winter/Early Spring 2012?

And would anyone be interested in assisting?

 

I would go, and I'm sure that my parents (both CP's) would want to go, as well. I presume it would be held in PHX, so weather wouldn't be an issue except for those traveling to PHX from the cold-weather spots.

I have some new job responsibilities, so I would have to refrain from volunteering to help until such time as the Do was announced. If things settle down at work and I have some extra time, I would be willing to help.

 

There's no "better" time of year for me although as of today, I've got very little on the books for Q4 and into 2012 although I think Feb 2012 will be out for me. With a few exceptions, I can be almost anywhere, almost anytime, with a few weeks' notice.

I had some outstanding brainstorming sessions with some fellow members (I will let them identify themselves if they choose) and will be happy to share our long list of ideas if that would help you. We did put a fair amount of work into things (we even had a conference call!!). The Boat, It sounds like you're planning to take the lead on things?

 

I would strongly suggest that you investigate what events are going on in Phoenix prior to picking any dates. Phoenix tends to have a rather large number of activities going on and if you pick the wrong weekend, airfares and hotels may be pricey, especially with airlines continually cutting back frequency of flights.

For example:
College Bowl Games (Fiesta and Insight and some years the BCS game)
Spring Training Games Feb/Mar
Two NASCAR races (spring and late fall)
PGA Tournament (usually a weekend around the Super Bowl)

Obviously the "cheap" time for hotels is in the summer when it is ~105-110+ daily. Of course this summer the MLB All Star game will be held in Phoenix.

 

I would be happy to take the point on organizing the entire event, as long as other members would be willing to assist as needed. I'm looking at possibly either February-April.

 

I'm thinking sometime between February-April 2012, which should be after the Spring Training Games, the BCS games, and hopefully around the NASCAR races.

 

If you proceed with planning for a DO, you should try to involve mersk862.

Perhaps we can coordinate - we are planning a do somewhere in NC -not sure the dates, but would probably involve a possible visit to INT res. We have been floating the idea with some management folks we work with on consumer issues and they appear interested.

Isn't Spring Training Feb/Mar?

 

Which would make the idea of April that much better, but when I was in PHX to see a few teams during spring training (a few years ago), I didn't feel that the hotel that I was staying in was completely packed, and the rates were relatively reasonable.

 

My vote is for Spring 2012.

 

Either is fine with me; if the Seminars event or whatever it is allowed to call itself, happens in 2012 I will not be surprised to see it stick with its October timeframe, so you may want to avoid September and October so that more folks will have time and budget to attend.

Maybe something like attend a new flight attendant class or help with airport opps at a hub.

 

Like what I experienced during the Delta DO in 2010---we got to learn everything about being a FA as well as getting an in depth look at the ops center

I would love to go to one of these Dos, however, all the threads I seem to catch are in the US. Does anyone know of a Do being planned in Europe? Am I looking in the wrong places?
