The Ultimate AA Mileage Run - MR Planning Challenge

I have a challenge to propose to my fellow MilePointers. I am plotting the ultimate AA mileage run to take advantage of the post-OWMD offer, which basically gives me triple RDMs if I plan this right.

Here's what I'll give to you, if you meet all the challenge objectives and are picked as the winner:

Your choice of:​

2 x AA System-Wide Upgrades, valid through Feb 2013​

or​

A $250 Kiva Gift Card​

The challenge:
You have a budget of $4000 (or $5400 for 120,000 base miles). Your mission is to find me a fare - or more likely, fares - on American Airlines, American Eagle, or American Connection operated flights that:

• Are bookable
• Earn over:
  • 90,000 base miles (ie, 90,000 miles flown - roughly 4.5cpm) for $4000 or less OR
  • 120,000 base miles (ie, 120,000 miles flown - roughly 4.5cpm) for $5400 or less
• A maximum connection time between flights of 3 hours (one or two overnight stops may be permitted)
• Obey Minimum Connection Time rules
• Can be completed in less than 16 days, between the dates of April 14 and May 20, 2012
• Must start and finish in the same city, anywhere in the United States.

I'll pick the winner of this challenge at my sole discretion, weight may be given to time taken to complete over cost, or cost over time taken to complete. Or maybe other factors, such as included destinations. I'll be intrigued to see what you guys can come up with!

Challenge closes at 10pm PST on March 9 and winner - if anyone manages to meet this challenge - will be declared shortly after that!

 

do you need aa operated flights only or do aa flight numbers count as well in your challenge ?

now if one could drop YQ on AA then FRA-SCL (442EUR N-base fare) or FRA-EZE (312EUR O-base fare) would be cheapo fares on AA metal

Since you're going to FT University, should these dates be modified as such: April 14 - 26; April 30 - May 20?

Is it 90K miles flown or 90K EQM?

 

90k miles butt-in-seat.

 

why don't you just spend the 4000$ for your "grand" trips over the pacific instead of "buying" the miles with lots of flying time (and pain) - how many miles would you earn with this challenge?

and because $4000 would get me about 2 AKL-LAX-AKL trips in Economy, or with this promo potentially up to 360,000 miles (3 x AKL-LAX-AKL trips in business)

Not to mention, I'll retain EXP

 

2-AKL-LAX RTs is definitely not worth $4K but 2 RTs in business is!

5 LAX-PVG RTs at $755 each nets you 86K BIS. The rest 5K you can earn by LAX-NYC RT at <$300.

Edit: "special" treatment to these LAX-PVG RTs lowers the cost further

 

Are LAX-PVG's still bookable? I've been looking at those for the last 3 hours trying to work it to that price, only getting it at $900+

 

Well they had a similar fare ex MSP that I was ready to book.. gone as on this morning. Ouch.
I interested in what other MR your find.

 

kyunbit used a bit of creativity on LAX-PVG routing and managed to meet the challenge targets... so far he is in the lead

 

I have a 86,460 miles for under $3,140 (April 16 to May 14 with some days for sight seeing). If this is of interest pm me your email and I can optimize/add to get over 90K.

@wijomas.. Love it! No way I will come close to you in the post OWMD challenge . I only need to fly 7,500 miles to get the triple RDM's. See you at the FTU!
