And what do the oddsmakers say my chances are of having a place to sleep for my April 3 reservation?

I think your chances of sleeping in the St. Regis or Four Seasons on this booking are quite good.

A reservation is a reservation. I expect that they will handle the manner in typical St. Regis fashion. You should be fine.

Any idea, if "walked" to the Four Seasons, what would happen with Starpoints, stay credit, etc.?

Of course. For us, though, the St. Regis price is a bit of a stretch (it's the last night of a 30+-day leisure trip), partially offset by the dinner, spa credit (would THB 1000 go very far there?), stay credit and points. So, I have booked a backup reservation at the Grand Hyatt Erawan but am really hoping for the St. Regis. It looks like the Four Seasons rate is about the same for the night we have booked, but without the dinner or spa credit (or possible Platinum breakfast?)

I would guess that the St. Regis will take good care of you in any event- if you have a backup reservation, just cancel it before its non-cxl period once you have heard from the St. Regis (are they open, etc). It looks like it will be a nice hotel indeed.

It's interesting, the posts here and on FT are inconclusive on what would happen in the event the hotel was not to open on time. It strikes me as strange that there is no one policy (surely this has come up in the past).

As I understand it: it is up to hotel management, which I take to directed by the hotel owner. In this case, the hotel owner also owns the Four Seasons, so I can understand why many think that may be the logical backup option. On the other hand, this is clearly an SPG property and I made the reservation through SPG. So one wonders if SPG, given the number of SPG properties in Bangkok, would 'walk' you to the RO Sheraton before they Four Seasons (which I would argue is closer in quality to what I expect at a St. Regis).

Has anyone been in this situation at another hotel in the past (i.e. had a reservation for a property that did not open on time)?

Most of us remember the recent events surrounding the 4P by Sheraton, Sukhumvit 15, when they had 2-weeks delayed opening to December 1st. Most guests were given the choice of either canceling or the hotel arranging similar accommodations at the WGS for the same rates, benefit, etc. But one hopes that the St. Regis as a brand has better standards, i.e. completing the property for occupancy on time as promised ... but this is Thailand!

I presume, if the opening date is delayed, then guests will be provided with comparable accommodations, benefits, rewards, etc. If not the 4 Seasons, then most likely the SGS with its awesome Grande Suites with butler service. :)

Do you by chance remember how far in advance they announced the 2-week delay?

Any recent news about the opening? The website still says April 1st.

Another SPG property, Aloft Bangkok Sukhumvit 11, just postponed its opening from April 1st to July 1, 2011. This Aloft is located almost across the street from Bed Supper Club.

And does anyone have a photo of how it actually looks at this stage?-- Both the Aloft and St. Regis, actually.

Aloft does have a Flickr.com album account full of renditions that's best seen using "Slideshow" feature: http://www.flickr.com/photos/52847969@N02/

This photo is of the upcoming Aloft from last August:

As for this thread's subject, the St. Regis Bangkok, I did take some indirect photos of it last December:

    Excellent benefits!
Too bad late check out only until 4 PM- the Four Seasons next door has complimentary late checkout until 8 PM which is wonderful for European flights (which all leave between 23:30 and 01:00).

That's nice to know about FS late check-out policy. But I am still curious about St Regis and have booked 2 nights for my upcoming Sep and Nov trip!

theskyflyer, I wouldn't worry about it as your bookings are at least 6 months after the current posted opening date. You will be fine.
