The Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi was beautiful; old world French Colonial architecture with an added modern wing. We were there for a week last January. Not the best time weather wise, but at least we didn't have to worry about the heat! We stayed in the newer Opera Wing. Our suite was an interesting combination of modern comforts with touches of French whorehouse thrown in. Fascinating. Except that the thermostat was always a challenge to regulate, the suite was comfortable and the bathroom was opulent. The toiletries were plentiful and the maid service was excellent. Nightly turndown service was also very good and always timely. Our suite was on the Club Floor. The Club Room was pretty and comfortable with the best service in the hotel. The evening snacks were excellent and drinks were fine, although you had to seek out a waitress for a refill. The breakfast buffet was very good with a nice mix of Asian and Western choices. Our first morning the rains were torrential! We asked to borrow an umbrella at the concierge desk in the Opera Wing Lobby. The Concierge seemed rushed and didn't understand or seem to care about our request. At the main lobby, another Concierge produced the requested umbrella, gave us a map, and made certain we got a taxi. We had the buffet lunch at the Club Restaurant just off the main lobby. It was outstanding with some unusual dishes such as an exceptional radish and foie gras salad. The Italian restaurant, Angelinas, was also very good and perfect for a late night snack at the bar. The hotel is well located within easy walking distance or short cab ride to most sites and shopping areas. The hotel car service was excellent and necessary as the airport is at least an hour from the hotel and city center. While Hanoi doesn't have many hotel choices yet, this was probably one of the best.
