BA claim the tags will shave valuable minutes off the check-in experience and reduce airport queues.
The digital tags use electronic ink, the same technology as the Kindle e-reader, to display a bar code which can be scanned at the bag drop desk. The device interacts with smartphones using Near-Field Communication (NFC), meaning passengers can update flight information themselves with a swipe of their phone after checking in using the BA app.

Currently the airline is testing 100 prototypes of the device on corporate flights between London and Seattle, and says that eventually a consumer version will be available for use on flights worldwide.
