For those of us who had airline status for 2010 and did not achieve it for 2011, tomorrow (March 1) is the saddest day of the year. NO MORE STATUS [IMG]

For those who have status, enjoy. For those of us who don't, good luck and let the earning begin!

However, for people who did earn status, the upgrade odds go up tomorrow as there will be fewer with status competing for FC seats.

Only if your FFP works that way. It's not universal.

Yup. For example, my FFP's top tiers are lifetime...then again at 500k/1mil to get into the club...

At midnight, tonigt, my exhalted Delta Platinum status disappears and I become a complete nobody.

The following day, when I board my ATL-TLV flight it will be without any status at all. I suspect that I will not be upgraded for three reasons:

    1. I will have no status.

    2. Delta does not give upgrades on international flights (except op ups).

    3. I bought a Biz Elite ticket, so there is no place to upgrade me to.

When I arrive in TLV I will have earned enogh MQMs to be a Silver Medallion (which is about the same as being a nobody).

At midnight, I have my final ties with status at Delta cut, although should the need arise, I can instantly jump back up to Silver Medallion whenever I need to.

*sob* my AA plat status is about to evaporate. Goodbye 1st Class upgrades. AA's lack of elite miles promos did me in this year. I just didn't have enough business travel to make it beyond Gold this year. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Oddly, besides feeling sad, I feel liberated. I've been a slave to AA for so many years to keep status -- they no longer own me. Whatever their reason for not having elite mile promotion, they may never get me back. So...I wonder if that will make AA feel sad? ( OK, Gadhafi ain't the only one capable of being delusional...[IMG])

Depends on the fares you take, they could end up begging you to come back, or you can enjoy your liberation from the dAArk side.

And for the rest of us, the saddest day of the year is January 1. While the rest of the world is merely nursing its hangovers, those of us who are addicted to miles and points have to ALSO face the agony of a zero balance.

My United Premier Exec expired Feb. 1. I am nothing, a plebe in the world of admirals. Lower than low.

I'm trying to hang on ... and do mattress runs.

Loosing Exec Plat with AA [IMG] (but at least will have LT Plat...for....LT of the program...) and loosing Plat with Starwood [IMG] (always have gold due to timeshare and SPG spending - yes I know each one would qualify on own). Least still have Hyatt Diamond :)

At least you still have some status. And now you have room to quest after hotel status in another program ;)

Not true in all programs. Delta MQMs (status miles) in excess of the status level earned roll over to the following year. It's nice to know even before January 1 that you have already earned your status for the following year, all before you even see an airplane (in my case, on January 4). I think of my rollover miles as an insurance policy so that if for some reason I would do less travel, I would still maintain my status with Delta.
