The Ritz Paris to Close for Two Years as It Undergoes Massive Renovations:)

In a statement, the hotel said the "unprecedented renovation project" would start in the summer of 2012 and take 27 months. Financial details were not disclosed.

It said hotel facilities, including its 160 rooms and suites, would preserve their traditional style while "offering the latest technological innovations".

Only about 30 of the hotel's about 500 employees would be kept on during the renovation, a hotel spokesman said, adding that "talks are underway" with staff representatives on assistance.

Indeed, a sorry situation for the Ritz Paris employees and I do hope that many if not all will be re-employed, they should know best what's great for this iconic hotel. We're very glad to hear that the grand dame gets a 21st century make over and we hope after this, the hotel can achieve official palace status. Heads up and wishing you a happy stay when the renovation has been completed, hope also to stay there in the future, at least for a night, worth the experience.
