A number of different travel industry companies — such as Fairmont, Four Seasons, Hyatt and Hilton — have been offering upgrades for which one can pay through Nor1, a third-party company which upsells inventory to increase revenue for its client companies.

Being a Hilton HHonors Diamond VIP member, I have been offered the Nor1 upgrades, but have never had to pay for them. To my knowledge, this program has never affected me. However, this program is controversial because there are those who believe that upselling upgrades takes away from the upgrades that are supposed to be a part of the benefits of being an elite member of a frequent guest program.

Please share your thoughts and experiences regarding Nor1. Thank you.

I love Nor1 at chains where I don't have status but hate it where I do have status. I have used it twice and got the suite I wanted for less then the going rate.
