This morning Valor quoted Cristiane Franck, Regional Director for the Southern Cone, saying that United was studying the upguage of their five daily Brazil flights (GIG-IAD, GIG-IAH, GRU-JFK, GRU-IAH, GRU-ORD) from 767 to 777 as soon as those aircraft are replaced on Pacific routes by 787's.

There was no discussion about additional frequencies or destinations for Brazil in this interview. However, she did say they were planning increasing the EZE frequency and planning also introduction of flights to SCL.

All this depends on the arrival of new 787's so that 777's and 767's will be released for other routes, she emphasized.

    Should "JFK" really be EWR?

Of course it should. You are not surprised that i have never taklen the flight, nor that i have a bias about EWR, despite flying SQ22 on occasion. Thanks for the correction.

I hope they change real soon. 777 is way better than the 767. But I'd really like to fly on a 787. I think it will take at least 4 years till some company bring that aircraft to Brazil!

I suspect we'll see the 787 sooner than that. However, there are no announced plans so we will just wait. I'd really rather have an A380 but no airport in Brazil is ready. Both AF and LH are good candidates if any airport could handle the airplane.

I really have no idea, but my guess would probably be Korean, Qatar or maybe one of the US carriers. There will be a huge amount of fleet shuffling as the B787 and A350 begin to be delivered, so it would be logical that Brazil might get more 777 and A330 flights before the B787 begin to come. Those are only speculations, I have no inside information.

I don't mind getting some 777s, but some 787s would be really nice. I hope AA give us some priority.

They might, but they also have major needs for several European routes. I hope they do too, after all Brazil is very, very good to them.

Personally, I'd like to see *A carriers follow DL and AA into offering direct flights from the US to places outside the Southeast. It's a pain and waste to go through GRU or GIG when I really want to get to MAO or SSA.

I am sure they will sometime soon, but when? It is ridiculous to come to the south just to fly back north again.

United basically gave up the EZE market when it pulled out of their MIA hub.... I wonder if they plan to get back into the market for EZE if they expand capacity to Brazil.....

Two weeks ago or so, I recall an interviewer making allusions to other South American expansion for UA. IIRC the impediment today is equipment. Once the LATAM dust settles I suspect there will be eitehrn lots more codeshare, more new flights and/or both.
