Of course, we have had heard about jetpacks for years but nothing that ever did quite what we expect them to do. The good news is that a jetpack has made incredible advances, but to do something different then you might think. Arizona State University, with funding from DARPA, has developed a jetpack device to help runners run faster. The name of the unit itself is call the 4MM - it stands for 4 minute mile. The idea is being initially targeted at helping soldiers (complete with their military packs) to run faster in dangerous situations or when they are inserted in hostile arenas. The device still is in development, but it has already allowed the test subject to shave quite a few seconds of their mile time – in spite of the fact that it is done while carrying the 11.2 pound jetpack. It sounds pretty incredible and I would love for them to make it small enough to fit under my shirt for my next marathon runs to the store. Check out...
