So my buddy went to check in, and the computer didn't find her. At all.

The catch is that she was checking in for her shift as a UA FA.

Investigation followed, and it turns out that a bunch of FAs were
suddenly and mistakenly put on the retired list. As my buddy is more
diligent than average, she eventually got it sorted out, and her
flight went out on time, with her on it, but I'm guessing some
others weren't so lucky or resourceful.

So if your flight Monday was delayed awaiting crew, that might have
    been why. ...

Did UA sell the jumpseat space for $39 before the mixup was fixed?

Very interesting. I wonder how late this continued.

I got caught in a weather delay trying to get into EWR Monday to make a connection. Missed the connection, then rescheduled my rescheduled flight to earn a couple of thousand extra miles and avoid the boredom of hanging out all day Tuesday in Newark. About ten minutes after getting off the phone with UA Monday night, the rescheduled Tuesday flight resulted in a delay notice. Awaiting crew.

It looked like my luck was just on a no-win path, and I considered sleeping in Tuesday after a very long Monday. Instead, I got up early to get some work done, and it was a good thing I did. The flight was back on for the originally scheduled departure time.

The reverse happened to a US FA I flew with. She was retiring at the end of the month, but Crew Scheduling was still bugging her about trips for the following month.

At the risk of feeding the trolls....

    US also uses SHARES.

(and FWIW, SHARES has nothing to do with crew scheduling or employment records, but why not have some fun :p)

Well, I quit before the frat boys took over, so we were still running SABRE. Never really got my head around that system, but to this day I can still remember a few commands from the one before that; PACER.

US still uses CATCREW for crew scheduling. I think I remember a copyright of 1983 or 85. It's not pretty but it's rock solid. The middle window below shows the main menu. Remember DOS?

What does any of this have to to with UA? When the US / UA merger was announced, I was happy to see that the third party vendor that made WinBid (a really nice piece of bidding software, that's what's in the other windows) also had something for UA crews.
