    Nice post. Reminds me of my first flight alone, a few years before that, but on a DC-3. I remember excellent attention, but then I was quite pleased anyway...;)

    A price that was no doubt substantially (prohibitively) higher, if adjusted to 2012 dollars.

    That is indisputably correct in the huge preponderance of tickets and trips. Plus, volume discounts (i.e., frequent-flyer miles) were generally not allowed, so this forum wouldn't exist under regulation!
