This is, apparently, a nuisance according to many folks I mentioned to about it, on a non public site. Few of the mentioned offenders in the list are on watch list. SIN denied one of them entry and deported him.

A rehash of Thailand scams is in order due to what happened recently to an Aussie pilot.

    http://www.news.com.au/travel/trave...d/news-story/4e4f890407d8120beb5fe3707a22732e

This is an old trick, I'm puzzled that such "a savvy" traveler fell for this??? Common scams are according to the article:
    • The jewellery scam
    • The “attractions closed” scam
    • The rental/jet ski scam
    • The fake consulate scam
Also, while traveling from HKT to Patong in a taxi, they tend to stop somewhere to get you to buy tours or change your hotel reservations - Don't do it! Don't leave your taxi and demand (nicely) to be taken to your desired destination.

I guess scams are not only in Thailand. It's everywhere. We just have to be smart and alert when we are traveling to other places.

Totally agree. But it seems to happen even more in Asian countries, especially if you don't speak their language or don't know their habits
