Two related articles that were recently published warn of an increase of Thailand hotel rates to keep up with rates at neighboring countries:

Thai Hotels Set to Hike Prices

Room rates poised to spike 20%
In the recent past, every time Thailand hoteliers decide to hike rates, something happens and the rates go further down. See the thread below: What's up with Thailand: A Recent History!

Raise the rates to be comparable to other neighboring countries and it will encourage me to take my money to those countries to which I have not visited before! :)

Don't worry, I'm sure PT will do something to re-invigorate the political divisions within society. Oh wait, they constantly are: case in point giving a convicted, obsessed, fugitive his passport back.

Government by the one, for the one will result in yet another conflict and the effect on tourism will, yet again, see us going in circles.

BKK is such a huge metrolpolis it seems likely you would always find somewhere offering a deal, alleviating the pressure of 20%

Good eyes my good man ... I saw the article in today's (Thursday) hard copy of China Daily and I did a quick search and came up with this one above. I assumed, mia colpa, that it was the same without checking, and, hence, the snafu!!! ;) I will try to find the right article and will post accordingly ... for now, it's happy hour here! :)

I notice the Lebua Tower Stay Longer Save More promo valid until the end of the year $195 inc, with the benefits I find myself a little tempted as I have wanted to stay here since its exposure in 'the movie'. I would certainly give it up for one of the two bedroom suites but it seems hard to find a deal on that.

    Great thread.
I am very receptive to value suggestions for top end accommodation, ahead of a visit in two weeks time.

I think I may have discovered a sweet spot, Amantara.
I know this property from past experience when labelling as Marriott, an oass away from the madding chaos. Good online reviews and I admit I do like the Stay Longer rate ( room only )

    Deluxe River View 3655
Skywards points a sweet additional extra.

Naturally if anyone can suggest a superior BKK alternative I am all ears.

FB, the former Marriott Resort & Spa Amantara is nice but sorta of located in a remote area on Thomburi with around 20-minutes boat ride from the Sathorn pire at Saphan Taksin (bridge). So it all depends on what you like to do in Bangkok. Anantara Riverside Bangkok is offered for $114/night for Deluxe room at Jetsetter.com. I you want I can do a referral for you. It is true that the upper end hotels seem (IMHE) to be increasing the occupancy and rates in general, despite all the new hotels being built. I hope Bangkok doesn't end up sinking under it's own weight (of all the HUGE buildings in a concentrated space);):(
