It turns out the underwear bomber wanted to target Chicago or Houston, but the ticket was too expensive; the DTW flight was cheaper, so he bought a ticket on that flight instead.

Did revenue management protect ORD at the expense of DTW? And why was a suicide bomber concerned about saving money? Did he intend to pay his bills, so as not to have a hit on his credit rating?

A sign of limited access to funds, of an interest in preserving resources for others to use for other purposes, and of accountability. In other words, exactly the opposite of the TSA.

Wasn't he on KL ticket stock on a KL fare?

As a former resident of Yemen I suggest that the quality of planning involved in this operation might well be characteristic of larger societal issues. The Maria Theresa Tolar still circulated as legal tender a few years ago.

    Good question!
Yet are we possibly missing the big picture here?
If we simply raise airline ticket prices high enough, couldn't we eliminate these threats? :D

reverse fare wars- UA raises their prices, so DL raises theirs even more, forcing the terrorists to fly UA. Then DL can advertise the best in class highest priced and safest flights.

Yep, and if all the airlines can act in concert, legally of course, 'they' will be relegated to the back of the 'bus' literally :D
Wait.. but then Greyhound & even BOLT will raise their prices also ..
and all but the super wealthy will have to stay home.. or walk! :(
I'll have to reconsider.. first I'm going to the gym for a lil worlout :)
