We have never flown in LH first before but have two trips booked to Europe this year.

What do we need to know?

We will be flying SEA/FRA/ZRH and return on the first trip and SEA/FRA/SPU and SPU/MUC/ORD/SEA on the return. We are checking regularly to see if we can find a SPU/FRA/SEA flight for the return. The though of leaving LH international first for UAL domestic first is too depressing.

Any other good advice or information that we might want to know?

Just relax and enjoy your flights. If you are interested in FCT/FCL make use of them.

The general opinion seems to be that the seat is outdated and lacks privacey if you have a stranger next to you. IMO the seat is comfortable for sitting and sleeping on it. The entertainment is definitely outdated with very small screens. They have a halfway decent offering of on demand video and audio. What usually is top notch is the service on board and the food. Also worldclass are the First Class Terminal and Lounges in FRA and MUC.

The seats are changed to an up to date product now for the A380 and the 747-8 so you might try and book one flight via SFO if possible. On the 747 fleet LH will change their first product on the upper deck from a 2-2 configuration to a 1-1 configuration keeping parts of the seat and remodelling parts. No real information as to how this product will look like but certainly very good space and privacey if travelling alone - not so convenient if travelling with your partner.

The seat is fine IMHO but with no doubt a bit outdated. If you can find availability on LX as well with a routing that suits your needs that may well be a good alternative.

I fully agree with Ralf that AVOD is totally outdated but I normally make no use of it anyway and don't care about it. Food is normally pretty good and the FAs are friendly and very professional.

Thank you all so much for your input.

    What is FCT/FCL?

I am assuming that AVOD is the video system. I really have enjoyed UAL's new video system--especially all of the games.

A flight through SFO is certainly a possibility that we are exploring. We will look at that more closely now that we know that the planes might be better.

Do they still have pajamas on board?

FCT: First Class Terminal in FRA
FCL: First Class Lounges in FRA, also MUC and ZRH

You can use the FCLs on arrival. The FCT is for departure only (though you can use it if you are connecting to an LH/LH/OS flight).

FRA-SFO will be on the A380 from 10 May 2011.

Yes, on overnight flights. On day flights it's hit or miss.

Audio/Video On Demand. Don't expcet too much from LH F in this respect unles you fly the new F on the A380. LX is much better here.

HON Andreas ("famous (?) HON who had 20min to explain in a tv format) the HON product said about the LH F AVOD: "the smallest screen in F I've for long long time." About the seat: " I know this seat like my poket, because it is over 10years with some little changes the same seat." But nevertheless I can sleep in the F seat and this counts for me most.

The service and food is where LH F really shines. I don't think there was a single moment in my entire journey where I was hungry or thirsty and FAs worked very hard to make sure everyone upstairs on the 744 felt the same way.

As far as the video is concerned, LH's system is outdated but you'll be so busy eating, drinking and eventually sleeping that it won't even matter.

    I need info please.

I am flying MUC-CLT on LH in business class. Are there LH agents meeting the flight to help connecting pax make their connection to another flight. I am connecting to an AC flight and although the connection is a legal one...time (1 1/2 hours) is of the essence.

I ask because AC has a concierge service for its premium pax.

    thanks

You will like the pj's and amenity kits until you fly them multiple times and realize they don't change much sans rimowa kits. Swiss has nice pj's and don't mind collecting the same kind but please enjoy the fct,fcl ducks.

IME, no. Is the connection at MUC or CLT? Or YYZ?

To the question of how is LH F, my answer is blah. It just isn't great. The lounges are nice lounges but that's an hour or two (I'd rather be in Munich than the MUC FCL), not 10 hours. The seat is better than LH C but only comparable to many other C products out there. The food is good enough but not amazing, even with a caviar course. The IFE is crap, too.

Yes, it is better than LH C, but that's not hard to do these days. A couple reviews here:

I find that the food is pretty darned good in F (to my tastebuds anyhow) and the service is impeccable, although sometimes impersonal. I've never failed to receive princess treatment in F on LH and I love the FCT in FRA. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Stick me in C, on the other hand and you'll get tears out of me. I find the food to be coach-like and the service to be brisk to nonexistent.
