Brazil’s largest airline company, TAM Linhas Aereas, was fined BRL6 million ($3.7 million) for its new “comfortable seats” policy. Under the pricing option, TAM passengers can pay $12.50 more for front row seats and seats in the emergency aisle that always have more leg room.
São Paulo state’s pro consumer bureau, Procon, said that TAM could no longer charge extra for the seating. TAM did not say whether they would challenge the decision, but did say late Tuesday that it did not charge extra for disabled persons or infants.

WTF? Why shouldn't they be allowed to charge extra for extra legroom?

Brazil does seem to gave some nice consumer protections. Better free luggage allowances, and no YQ, if I recall right.

In theory they should. The logic seems to be that those seats should have been reserved for people with special needs, who in most of the world are blocked from them. The story is not yet over.

Special needs passengs in exit rows? Not a good idea for the protection of everyone else.

The logic is warped no doubt. the stated issue seems to be differential pricing without a class difference, or something like that. I hope TAM fights.
