We are starting to put together a rough plan for a trip we are going to take next year.

Think we have the flights covered. We will try and redeem AA points to fly Air Tahiti from LAX to PPT to Auckland. We can then redeem Velocity Rewards to go Auckland to BNE. Alternatively we have points on Hawaiian to go the HNL - PPT route. Does anyone have any experience redeeming AA points for premium cabins on Air Tahiti and is it worth it?

We are probably not looking to do more than 4-5 nights in Tahiti. We are not really the type to sit on the porch and watch the ocean or lie by the pool working on our trans. So figure we can go and do our thing and leave. A bit of snorkelling and kayaking and we will be happy.

I've read various threads that seem to suggest that Moorea is the more accessible of the two locations as it is only a ferry ride from Papeete. Am I right in that it is more difficult getting to Bora Bora and can be quite expensive? Does anyone know what time the last ferry goes as that may determine what flight we can take. Is it a must do thing to go to both locations?

Obviously due to cost we would prefer to redeem points rather than pay out of pocket. We have sufficient points currently to cover a stay at the IC on Moorea. Does anyone have any experience of this property vs the Hilton? Which would you prefer? We would have to make an effort to accumulate the Hilton points but sure it could be done.
