Sydney Sweet Stops

  1. Indulge in some seriously sinful behaviour and tour Sydney in search of sweet treats. Recommended for chocoholics!
For a city whose locals spend much of their time in ‘swimmers’ or bikinis, Sydney surprisingly offers up plenty of places to satiate the sweetest tooth.
Bondi Beach has lots of gelati (sorbet) and super-chilled yogurt bars in Hall Street and along Campbell Parade for the figure-conscious body beautiful. Choose your favourite flavour and topping and wait for it to be swirled together. Hit Pompeii’s for an Italian cone to wander along the beach.
For handmade chocolates and French fancies of the patisserie-style cafes, head to the Rocks to Baroque for macaroons and La Renaissance Café Patisserie for a slice of lemon tart.
Then on to Martin Place to Lindt Café in the city for hot chocolate topped with cream, an ice choc sundae or a deeply naughty dark chocolate croissant.
Sugar hits are the best way to cure three thirty-itis, try lemon tarts and raspberry tortes at the Sweet Infinity store in The Strand.
Max Brenner continues to tempt us in with hot chocolate in hug mugs and nutella and banana pizzas in Paddo (Paddington) and frosted cup cakes are pretty fancy in Surry Hills at Sparkle Cupcakery.
Judging by the queues outside his patisserie, Adriano Zumbo is well on the way to success of his ambition of ‘caramelising the nation’ and Balmain has embraced his quirky creations, like ‘Weekend in the Cross’, a pistachio watermelon tart with a sugar sachet perched on top. Sprinkle for an extra sweet hit.
The Sicilians have sweet tooth types covered too just a hop west of the CBD at Pasticceria Papa Haberfield, where Panzerotti, cannoli, biscotti and all the traditional Italian baked goods are lined up in a mouthwatering display.
Gorge on the good stuff at one of the fabulous chocoholic haunts in the city. Guylian café – of the Belgian shell chocolate fame – is a chic coffee and chocolate shop at Opera Quays, serving Moët & Chandon bubbles.
