    SYD T1 odd gate allocations

I've noticed the last few months the old oneworld vs rest allocation between the main piers no longer holds. Many times I've been on Qantas and gotten the western pier, and on Emirates, Thai, United, etc and gotten the eastern pier or north of the Qantas lounges.

Makes it a nuisance for connections and lounge visits.

  2. There has been quite a bit of shuffling going on. I think it's just another reminder that SYD airport is getting overloaded and really needs to be expanded. Dunno when/if that's likely to happen though...

Annoyances? The fact that SYD is terrible at stamping passports!

I didn't think that was a Sydney specific thing.

Only other places I have ever had stamps in random places are Poland (not quite random.. last page) and the Czech Republic. In SYD, on departure it rarely goes into the next available

    Yes, it's really frustrating sometimes.

The worse one I had was QF117 (SYD-WLG) which departed from gate 63.

If you're not familiar with the layout, Gate 63 is the farthest possible gate from the Qantas lounges and is a good 10+ minute walk. On the way I passed various lounges including EK, SQ, MH and NZ.

Here's a map for those unfamiliar:

I had a connection recently that arrived at 63 and departed at gate 8
    Between 25 & 56 also.

I think I'd be asking for compensation. That's completely crazy.

Do you think SYD would welcome a petition from passengers for them to bring back the building works, so that the terminal can once again be de facto divided into two?

It's not Sydney-specific. I get this just about everywhere.

Best defence: Staple the double blank pages together so that they can't get at them, and have to stamp on a pair of pages that's been partly used already. Use the "pin" function on the stapler, so that it's easy for them to pull them out to check that they're double blanks, if they really need to.

But according to SYD's survey, passengers LOVE their new shopping mall (I mean, airport design). You must be in the minority.

Man, I must be so ignorant... passed SYD last November and didn't even realise the shopping mall. Well on arrival I was so happy to see a special lady again and on departure I was so devastated I had to leave again...
I'll keep my eyes open in April :)

I don't mind the long walks - heck, I'll be sitting for hours, and taking in the "scenery" at the airport is always part of the experience for me, but YMMV.

Biggest annoyance for me is the station "access fee".

I've gotten that at some airports but can't recall which. A few times I've had agents stamp on a full page, sort of in the center in a more-or-less open spot. I can be compulsive about all sorts of things, but passport stamps isn't one of them, so I never cared much. I think I kind of liked the stamp in the middle of the page because it made me feel like such a world traveler :)
