Have an upcoming trip on LH431 ORD-FRA (with a pleasant 9hr layover at ORD prior to the flight) . With the swiss lounge being in terminal 5, will security at T5 let me pass even though my BP is for LH 431 that will leave out of terminal 1? I assume yes since its a same day BP, but want to confirm before taking the train over and finding out I can't get past the TSA.

    thanks much.

Actually- I don't think it will work unfortunately. 9 over layover at ORD? Go into town or at least across to the Hilton.

I have a couple of plan B's but was hoping to see swiss lounge since I dont normally depart from ORD as my gateway on TATL, and hardly ever go into t-5

That was plan F.....but it may be a necessary evil. I already see them enough on domestic hops from ORD.

I was last there a few years ago - so may have changed - but back then the SWISS lounge was really nothing special.

Agreed not the greatest place- however far better than sitting in the terminal for 9 hours.

I think I've heard somewhere that the LX lounge was currently closed for refurbishement, or will close shortly... Either way, it is really nothing special so even if the TSA was to let you into T5, it would not be worth it IMHO.

With 9 hours, I'd definitely head into town. It's cheap and easy with the subway.

Take the El down and hang out on Michigan Ave. I would give yourself 45 min each way on the Blue line, so you would have 4+ hours to hang out!

This is what I would do as well unless there was a pressing need to get some work completed. The OP said they didn't want to go into town however.

thats a good idea. I better start hoarding the RCC complimentary drink coupons. I only have 10 so far....its going to be a long morning without more.

we'll find out. I usually dont drink in there, but I remember in the past when I show up to rcc in the afternoon, the lounge dragon offers drink coupons. I'm usually in and out of the RCC's in the morning so maybe I missed something that changed recently?

After the merger UA started giving free drinks in the RCC to match CO offering.

Thanks for the update. Didn't know that was the case. I guess I now have some very collectible soon to be valuable memorabilia.

I think the drink coupons now work for premium liquor they don't give for free.

That was just for the transitional month of October when one could use two coupons for each premium (albeit not the really premium stuff like The Macallan) drink, but no more. They're wallpaper. Souvenirs, not even redeemable in flight. (At least wifi is now free for everyone, not just RCC members or premium fliers.)

Even if the Swiss lounge was open, it would only be so for a couple of hours before the earlier STAR flight from T5, so you'd still have a few hours to kill. Hop the El and go to the Art Institute. Not much alternative with that much time. Even the Hilton has nothing really to offer except a sports bar...or a day room.

The LX lounge is still nothing special. Better than an RCC, but that really isn't saying much.
