Looking for ideas on where to go.

    Boundaries:
    - Not in the U.S. or South Africa (I go to South Africa on business enough to not feel I'd be "away from it all.").
    - We have done Honolulu and Maui plenty already.
    - Will be redeeming Mileage Plus miles (so, Star Alliance-reachable)
    - Preferably with a Marriott-chain property (point redemption).
    - Hilton is okay, have about 350k points to burn with them.
    - Doesn't have to be "budget," but not over-the-top expensive, either.
    - We don't like being spoiled, but friendly service is important.
    - No children.
    - Time of year is very flexible, looking for suggestions for both May-July and Christmas time.
    - Warm climate, but not oppressively hot enough to want to stay indoors all the time (in other words, we want to sit on a beach and/or pool deck).
    - Would prefer a location that seems to "get away from it all," but if we chose to check e-mail, can be done. Would not take mobile phones with us. The idea of "getting away from it all" is very appealing.

Right now, Phuket, Thailand is high on my list, if that gives you a better idea. Looking for other ideas, though.

The beaches in Thailand are very appealing to me too. Perhaps a tad less expensive, you might want to consider the area around China Beach in Vietnam. In fact, that's my avatar....the resort is called The Nam Hai in Hoi An. It's a gorgeous hotel with very good food and exceptional service. You can hang out at the beach and pools all day, or if you want some variety, the nearby town of Hoi An is quite interesting. There are several other resorts in that area, so you have a lot of options if this is of interest to you.

Costa Rica. May to July would be green season though (still beautiful) so December would be a better bet.

Bay of Islands and Northland, North Island NZ. Either time frame, December warmer obviously.

If you're in South Africa, why not pop over to MRU? RUN might be an option as well but I'm not sure about redemption options for getting there.

Another possibility would be Bali. You could fly to SIN then get a cheap flight the rest of the way.

I agree with the Hoi An option as well.

Phuket is a great place to visit. I went there a few years ago and stayed the the Sheraton Laguna Resort and it was great.

    You should consider:
    Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
    Bali, Indonesia
    Moorea, French Polynesia
    Koh Samui, Thailand
    Crete, Greece
    Ibiza, Spain

Well those are the places I'd go to and recommend for you to go to as well...

You might consider the Cook Islands.
