I thought it might be helpful for people to have one place to go to see a list of all the award routings that others have managed to successfully redeem using their AA miles, and what the booking dates, departure dates, and taxes/surcharges are. This way, maybe people can get some good suggestions on where to go and see how others have maximized their awards. I recently booked an an all-partner one, it's not great, but I'll start with that:

    LGA-MIA-CDG/PRG-HEL-JFK-SAN
6 hour layover in MIA (intentional)
23 hour layover in CDG (intentional)
23 hour layover in HEL (intentional)
6 month layover in North American gateway of NY (intentional)
PRG-HEL on MA; HEL-JFK on AY; everything else on AA
Avoids BA and London surcharges (intentional)
Booking: January 2011; Traveling: June 2011.
    Economy; Cost: 60,000 + $102.20 (taxes) + $20 (phone booking fee)

I have only done one all partner to Europe and did transit LON, so of course had ridiculous taxes. I am definitely going to consider a similar itinerary to yours for the next TA trip booked on AA, but it will probably be via MAD though. Thanks for starting this thread, I will be most interested to see what others can share.

Is this an All Partner award? What did this cost (in miles and taxes) for each of these tickets?

Great find! 3 in F on CX is not the easiest award to find.

I was able to upgrade our return to F on the HKG-SFO flight today, Feb 10. I have been checking the BA web site for seats and nothing has been available. I have also checked with the EXP desk over the past few weeks while calling about other flights and I have received the same answer, nothing available. This morning I checked the BA web site and still no F seats, but while calling the EXP desk about another flight I asked for the agent to check on F seats for our return flight, bang 2 seats in F. It will cost me 12,500 more miles per ticket and the tax stays at $25 per ticket.

    DFW-SFO-HKG-DPS in mid February
4 day stopover in SFO on the outbound
CX First for 2 passengers on the outbound and Bussiness on the return. I am still checking daily for First on the return. This was booked in mid September.
    miles used, 245,000
    taxes $50.00

This was a Oneworld award, rather than a partner award, but I am posting it because there isn't a thread for oneworld awards and I booked it with AA miles. STL-ORD-LHR(X)-NBO(X)-LHR-AMX(X)-LHR-NAP(X)-MAD(X)-JFK(X)-ORD-STL. Stopovers were 5 nights at LHR, 13 nights at NBO, 4 nights at AMS, 4 nights at NAP, 5 nights at MAD, 4 nights at JFK. Two tickets in business, 260,000 miles, $630 (but this was before the recent BA fuel robbery was initiated, would probably be more now).

Booked Feb. 2009, traveled Sept. 2009. The NAP-MAD segment was on Air Nostrum, an IB regional affiliate. MAD-JFK was IB, STL-ORD-LHR and JFK-ORD-STL were AA, and the rest was BA.

not on partner airlines but I was fairly happy with my 20k off-peak award redemption to Europe this winter.

especially since EWR-MIA-MAD gave me a full day in Miami included in the trip... and on the way back BCN-JFK-ORD-PHL allowed me to fly home, spend the night in my bed and continue the next day to have lunch in Chicago and dinner in Philly before returning home on Megabus for a buck fitty.

Good idea, flying into PHL and taking the Megabus, you must've booked pretty early to get those 1.50 seats. So total 40K, all coach on AA metal, right? Remember your taxes and fees?

I booked Megabus 2 months in advance, as soon as the schedule was extended to include mid-January. I actually bought two tickets for the 6:30pm and the 9:30pm bus in case things went sideways in Chicago (it did start snowing but not enough to cause trouble... although I was hoping for a bump... D'oh!)

    The taxes were as follows:

    EWR-MIA-MAD 20k +$5
    BCN-JFK-ORD-PHL 20k + $36.20

I am about to book another American Airlines trip via British Airways Executive Club... thinking of burning 25k BA miles for NRT-DFW-LGA Its the only under $50 in tax fare I could find... booking the same route TYO-NYC using JAL generates something like $162 in taxes. It's too bad I can't force the more direct booking via AA far in advance, everything comes up on British metal via London, with crazy mileage requirements and even crazier fees and taxes.

I love this thread! I'm always totally lost in how to do my award bookings, except for standard single destination tickets. [IMG]

I'm taking my first trip on CX thanks to BA miles in March 2011 also... was wondering what does it cost to do a layover in Hong Kong... its something you request after you've booked your award ticket? How much extra is it?

Anything less than 24 hours is a free stopover on AA Awards. BA awards are different, and I'm not familiar with the specifics of the BAEC program.

From this BA thread, it sounds like a stopover in HK is free (probably some small amount of taxes). I recall CX is pretty generous about allowing HK stopovers.

    ORD-LHR(X) on AA
    LHR-HKG on CX
    HKG-FUK (X) on KA
    FUK-TPE-HKG-SIN-CMB(X) on CX
    CMB-SIN(X) on CX
    SIN-SYD(X) on QF

    LAX-ORD on AA

    Total miles: 280,000 and $450 in taxes/fess.

    Thanks gemac!

Its my first time flying on miles, was pretty hard to part with them, I worked so hard to collect them. I'm really looking forward to it.
