A few days ago mrs. JBC scored upgrades to Air France First Class on the A380 CDG-JNB! I was thrilled because we'd not done that together. In my eagerness to tell her the upgrades had cleared I rushed out of my office, ignored the rolled up carpet that was being leaned, tripped, fell on the marble floor and broke my kneecap. Now we have had to cancel the trip and I am immobilized for a month or so.

Anybody else who's done anything this stupid.

Awww so sorry that happened to you. I hope you can go on the same trip later when you are healed up.

A few years ago I stepped off a curb without seeing it and broken foot and ankle the day before I left for Las Vegas to teach at a conference.

That is the kind of thing I am wondering about. I'd never been caught doing such a thing (I'd always been lucky by avoiding damage, I suppose) but I am curious how often it happens. Certainly the diagnosis and treatment plan took less than an hour to complete after my arrival at my local clinic, so they were clearly accustomed to such things.

Was to trust the local money ex-changer to get me a square deal. I got ripped.

Sprained my ankle going down a dim stairwell in a Paris hotel the morning of my departure back to the US. The schlep from the RER through to Terminal 2-whatever is bad enough when fully mobile - doing it while more or less hopping on one leg pulling a roll-aboard was no fun. Snagged a wheelchair at LHR, fortunately, and the FAs on my AA flight home kept me well iced.

The marble floor is innocent. It's all the fault of the carpet.
