Hey guys...My parents are scheduled to come back home to ORD on Friday. They are supposed to fly from NCE-FRA on Lufthansa then FRA-ORD on United. As of right now, their flight on Lufthansa isn't cancelled yet but I just spoke to Lufthansa and they said it pretty much can cancel any time and then it is a race to get seats on other flights to get them to their connecting flight (12:45 pm) from Frankfort...I really would like a back-up plan with cash or points...suggestins?

Not a lot of choices. AF doesn't seem to fly non-stop from NCE to FRA, and I don't know who else would. They could route via Paris, but there seems to be just one flight pair on Friday morning that would make the connection. $621 one way.

Are the LH and UA flights at least on the same ticket?

Don't know if this is true for the flight on AF mentioned but sometimes it is cheaper to buy a RT and throw away the return than to buy a one way.

Yes so Lufthansa said in theory, they'd find them new seats but nothing is guaranteed.

They can go by TGV fast train either via Paris or make a train connection half way.
It will take them about 8 hours

When I looked on bahn.de, the fastest connections seem to be around 11-12 hours, but I could have missed something. Even 8 hrs means they'd have to leave the night before to make the UA flight, though, I think. And at that time it's probably not clear whether the LH flight is going to get canceled.

I'd probably start looking into hotel accommodations in NCE and FRA (of course, cancelable bookings). LH should provide accommodations, but who knows...

I thought Frankfort was in Kentucky and Frankfurt was in Germany...;)

I hope everything works out for their flights!!

If they opt to take the train but their flight is not cancelled, I presume that the rest of their ticket would be cancelled for the no show.

If you or they have status, try to call UA for options. Perhaps UA would be willing to protect them on some other flight.

The German one is Frankfurt, not Franfurt.
