I am trying to piece together an itinerary for a trip to visit Bali this summer and was wondering if anybody has any insight on whether UA/CO allow a stopover in Hawaii on an IAD - DPS itinerary.
Possible routing would look something like:
    IAD-HNL (stop)-HND-SIN-DPS, DPS-BKK/HKG/SIN-NRT-IAD.

Yes, that should be valid. If you'd like to visit the other islands, you'll have to make your own transportation arrangements as you cannot mix non-Star Alliance partners in with Star Alliance awards.

While this was the sUA policy is was decidedly not for sCO. I'm not sure which way the new policy will play.

I'm assuming you are U.S. based, if so & unless time is not a concern for you, I'd max your time in Bali and simply visit HI at another time.
