I agree, the Cat 1-4 is what makes this bonus weak... along with only being able to earn a max of 2 nights. However, if you do this on top of the Q2 Starwood or Hyatt promotions, it's not a bad way to eek out a few extra free nights.

I like using the free night certs for the Cat 4 Boston Marriott Burlington....especially for expensive mid-week stays.
This is also one of the few Boston area hotels which accepts the EEO BOGO. I can frequently find LNF rates for this hotel, as well. Mid week generally runs @$250 but weekends go down to @$119 with LNF getting it down further.

so, as MyTravels stated, there are 2 promos, based on what Marriott Status you hold. I *believe* gold and lower get the stay 2 nights get 1 free promotion, where Platinum (and possibly gold) get the variations of staying 20-30 nights for points.

Currently, as a Platinum, my promo is stay 20 nights for 25k points, stay 25 nights for 40k points. Not bad, but I would have rather had the ability to stay 4 nights and get 2 free (as before) because Marriott has been known to convert those 2 free night certificates into 50k points (they did this for me last promo period)

I was also looking at where to use them and the Courtyard Boston - Cambridge is a cat 4. Not sure how nice it is or anything but I gotta think that it's a pretty good redemption. Also, I like going to Vegas and there are a few Cat 4 properties there which are good options to avoid some of those ridiculous weekend rates at the casinos. Not to mention, the best places to eat (value-wise) are off strip anyway.

There are also international properties that are a Cat 4 that are quite nice. With the exchange rate, a Cat 1-4 cert could offset some serious $$. Marriott's categories are based on a combination of things, such as the property, location - and how often it's requested as an award.

    Cheers.

    Wouldn't two Cat 4's exchange for 40k? (20k * 2)?

I've got the 2 free cat 4 certs that I'm prob not going to use before they expire. How did you go about getting them converted to points? Did they give you much hassle about it, or was it pretty easy?

I had read other reports of them giving 50k for those 2 certs, and really without prodding, thats what they offered me.

I actually just called and asked. My situation is a little different, I am currently LIVING at a Residence Inn (corporate relocation) for another few months, so I just explained that all of the travel that my wife and I do is at Marriott's but is covered by our employers, so the 2 certs wouldnt be of much use because when we vacation we typically will stay at a Cat 7 or 8 hotel, so they just offered 50k for those 2 certs. Pretty straight forward...
