I know that historically UA/CO will not match status from another Star Alliance carrier but given the impending sale of BD to a non* carrier, I'm wondering if I should pursue this. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

Unlikely so long as they are still *A. I wouldn't bet on it working, though you can certainly ask.

The fact that the sale to IAG isn't actually final yet doesn't work in your favor.

My thoughts exactly. That said, I see no harm in asking. Will report back once I have an answer.

You can always do a status match challenge, see form
    http://media.expedia.com/ads/ECT/Carrier/United/2011MileagePlusEliteStatusMatchRequestForm.pdf

Status Matching from *A doesn't even work even if you have corporate sponsored match. It was taken out this year.
e.g. see: 2011 corporate status match (google'd example, you shouldn't actually file it unless you work for that company)
    http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...f49mY_tia0DOWHR3g&sig2=NFpk57H1JKZIkGLeuJiw_A

Compare to 2010's where you were able to:
