Today marks an exciting day for our members, and we’re thrilled for you to be among the first to hear about it here! With the Starwood and Marriott merger now officially complete, our loyalty programs still remain separate. However, starting today you can unlock an exciting world of new destinations (Budapest, Bahamas and more) and redemption options by linking your SPG account with your Marriott Rewards or Ritz Carlton Rewards account. When you link accounts you will instantly enjoy two new advantages:
    • Elite status match
    • Points transfer between the programs

You can see full details and link your accounts (or enroll if you’re not already a member) here.

Other than these new account linking advantages, nothing changes today for SPG. Your benefits, elite status and existing reservations are all unaffected. And, you should continue to book, stay, earn and redeem just as you always do.

This is just the beginning, and we’re excited for you! As always, we’ll be here and can help answer any questions that you have regarding today’s news.

[Updated] You may also visit here to link up your accounts.

Just as a data point, Marriott matched my SPG Gold to Marriott Gold (I was Silver on my own account). Since Marriott offers lounge access to Golds where available, this works out pretty well.

Does SPG have an invite-only tier above Platinum that would be matched to Marriott Platinum Premier?

Starwood has the VIP tier, which is invitation only. Its benefits significantly exceed those of Marriott PP and include a free suite upgrade at the time of booking. You have to be somebody big, e.g., travel planner at a large company, hotel owner, etc. Don't know if they will give you PP status if you have VIP, but it's highly unlikely that Marriott PPs get SPG VIP.

I was initially pleased as a Marriott Lifetime Platinum Elite to hear we would get matching platinum status at SPG - BUT - on closer review, SPG has 3 levels of platinum and even tho I have lifetime platinum at Marriott, I get the lowest level of platinum at SPG. So no suite nights, etc. Frankly, that stinks given it is harder to get status at Marriott than SPG so lifetime should convert to the highest non-invitation tier at SPG. So, bottom line, happy for an instant and then the reality set in.

Technically I guess you would say they aren't listed as levels but once you reach platinum, you get more perks after 50 nights, then again more after 75 nights and once more after 100 - so really, there are 4 stages/levels of platinum.

Not really, 50 nights IS required for Platinum (or you can get it by match), so if you get it by match you might not get the 50 night "gift" which is a one time thing worth about $100 USD. AT 75 and 100 you get minimal extras (at 75 I think "your 24" which is NOT always guaranteed and an extra point/dollar spent and at 100 you get your own "personal concierge" which people have reported as having variable value)
So for me the real benefits - upgrades to suite, lounge access don't change with more nights ;)

And poof -just like that I go from rarely if ever staying in a Marriott to Platinum Elite. Kudos to the IT teams to pull that off so smoothly.

So, perhaps you can clarify: If I'm linked in to Platinum based on my Marriott Platinum, is it as though I got there through staying 50 nights? So if I add 25 more I'd get the 75-nights amenities including the extra point per dollar on spend? Or do I have to start from zero and stay 75 MORE nights to get those aenities?

When I look at the site, I can't figure it out. And why if you are lifetime plat with Marriott do you not get lifetime plat with spg? That doesn't seem like a real status match.

I just linked. I already have 136 nights on Marriott and about 10 nights on SPG (I rarely use SPG due to work booking me into Marriott).
Do I get any "gifts" for now being a SPG Platinum with more than 75 nights? I actually don't care about any gifts but I usually like to know what to expect.

I do like the benefits of getting lounge access (although truth be told, when I checked into big city SPG properties (as a Gold), I was given lounge access by very nice front office staff by just asking. :). Since my requirements for a hotel room are comfortable bed and dark quiet room, amenities other than lounge access and perhaps occasional late check-out are nice but unnecessary and not sought after.

The questions about what "night" credits and if one gets the Platinum "gift" - sorry don't have a clue. Perhaps calling the Platinum line would yield an answer.
As for lifetime - my understanding is that we are all awaiting whether this will happen, but afaik no announcements yet.

Other than a choice of welcome gift at check-in, no. Your 10 nights with SPG did not increase to 75 nights with the linking of your accounts.

Platinum with SPG for years but only enough nights for Lifetime Gold. Any idea if that will transfer to Lifetime Gold with Marriott once the merger of the award programs is complete?
