Got an email this morning that they are revamping their rewards, effective 10.16:
    To be added:
    Something Good On Your Birthday
Now your free "birthday drink" is a free drink or food item
    on your big day.**

    Free Refills in the Store
Go ahead, stay awhile. Enjoy free refills on iced or brewed coffee or tea while you're in the store.*

No More Postcards (#1 member-requested change)
Your free drink (or food) will load right onto your Starbucks Card account. You'll receive an email alert close to your birthday. Just bring your registered Starbucks Card or the Starbucks Card mobile app to a participating store and tell your barista.

    To be removed:
    Soy & Syrup
We will no longer offer syrups and soymilk on the house.

Tall Drink with Whole Bean Purchase
We also will no longer offer a free tall drink when you buy
    a pound of coffee.

That's it. These "enhancements" broke the camel's back. I am going to fly drink at my little neighborhood coffeeshop now. :)

(actually, that's where I am right now writing this)

Not a big syrup fan, though I do like the occasional peppermint mocha during the holiday season.

So now I have to remember to go to Starbucks on my birthday to get my free drink? If I sign up 365 cards, can I have my birthday every day? ;)

As someone who tends to hoard the free drink post card and use it ~2 months later (they have never looked at the expiration date), I'm a little let down by the news.

It's interesting that the "Gold" members got a different email. No mention of birthday drink on mine, but they did make reduce the free drink (or food, now) threshold from 15 visits to 12 (20% improvement). Also thrilled about the electronic post card; i've let at least a few go to waste because of the expiration date.

The positives are nice but I'm really disappointed with the benefits going away. The only reason I obtained status and loaded money on my card was for the free soy milk and sugar-free vanilla syrup with my earl grey.

I don't mind free drinks faster but I'm going to miss free soymilk for sure. The changes are probably a wash for me, especially since you can get stars for bottled drinks.

I have to ask - how do you order this? ;) Something like an Earl Grey tea latte sounds good.

You can order it as an Earl Grey tea latte, but to save a little money I usually order an Earl Grey with sugar-free vanilla syrup and then say with a little bit of soy milk.

Overall I think the changes are good (free drink every 12 rather than 15), but no more free syrup is really going to add up in my daily vanilla iced coffee.

I have missed out on many free drinks because of expired postcards. This is a win for me.

I use it primarily for the free refills on brewed coffee (I don't feel bad about sucking down wifi and occupying a seat if I have a drink), but the addition of free food after 12 drinks is a great improvement.

FWIW, I gave my wife and daughter Starbucks cards that auto-refill and tied them to my account. Between the three of us, we hit 12 drinks pretty often - me traveling, my daughter as a high schooler, and my wife in the mornings on the way to work.

I'm with others in missing out on the soy but I guess with the reduction in the # of drinks required to earn a free drink, it's pretty much a wash and might actually come out ahead if I opt to go back to the lactose.

I guess the local Starbucks is going to smell just a bit more than usual after this change when the unknowingly slightly lactose intolerant flatulent coffee drinkers with endless cups of coffee and free wifi decide to not to pay up for the soy and spend all day there.

I do not typically get syrups nor do I drink soy...so no change...other than faster free drinks! :)
