Star Alliance Reward to Maldives

Discussion in 'Star Alliance' started by Train, Sep 7, 2011.  |  Print Topic

  1. Has anyone found a way to get to Male, Maldives using a business / first Star A reward?

United was able to get me to Singapore from which Singapore Air operates 2 flights to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and they only leave 1 seat available for a reward on each. There are 2 of us so that does not work. Even if it did, I'd have to pay cash from Colombo to Male which would be OK. Then for any island within the Maldives, it's another paid flight.

United or Luftahnsa can get me to India, Bom or Del, but from there, I don't believe there is any Star A for the rest of it?

Anyone have any luck with this? Thanks!

Because they do! Sq452 operates daily and sq462 operates several days a week.

I flew this route on sq a few years back.

I'm doing Singapore to Male in February. Getting award seats is tough, often just a single business and single coach seat per flight. Search is that way, rather than looking for 2 business class.

The only Star option to Male is via Singapore. But Columbo, regardless of airline/alliance, is a good option and cheap to buy the onward flight to Male. Much cheaper, say, than buying a flight from Bangkok (Bangkok Airways) etc.

Columbo to Male is a very easy flight.

If you do go via CMB, look into the EK (Emirates) 777 flight from CMB to MLE. Fares are pretty reasonable, and you can get an F seat for just a few hundred bucks. It's a short flight...but for those who've never experienced EK F, this is an easy way to do it. The flight runs 4 days a week.

If you simply want to fly the most carriers, Oman Air has A-333 service between these two ports twice weekly. This is a carrier few from the states get to fly.

Sri Lankan Airways runs shuttle service between these two ports, with 6 or so daily flights.

Yes of course, I forgot, it's once-weekly service.

And, to be fair, notoriously hard to reserve seats (even revenue) on as OS likes to keep them for their employees.
