Local media are reporting that the St Cloud MN airport has been awarded $750,000 from the federal government to restore scheduled passenger flights. Delta dropped service in 2009 after NW had offered service for years, primarily AirLink service to MSP for connections. The airport is hoping for service to Chicago.

St Cloud is located about 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis or an hour and a half with no traffic from MSP by interstate highway. Since the airport is located SSW of downtown Minneapolis and the trip goes through the edge of downtown (albeit on interstate highways), much more driving time must be allowed, especially during rush hour. The distance between the STC and MSP airports is about 80-85 miles by car and the distance to Chicago from MSP is about 330 air miles.
