I've been thinking about booking one of these great SQ RTW deals ex USA -- can't beat it:

    Singapore Airlines from US

    FIRST
    US$6,699*

    BUSINESS
    US$5,299*

    COACH
    US$2,266*

Does anyone have / recommend a good travel agent to book these with, or should I just call SQ as they advise. Any reason not to book direct?

I remember reading that you should contact SQ Sales Office in the US and not contact their call center which will be clueless about this product.

Definitely! These are precious deals and the sales office is the way to go. I would try the call center first, just in case, because that could save you a trip if it works. Do not use a travel agent, they will not do as well as SQ directly IME.

I find myself in a position to take advantage of these RTW flights. What website or rules go along with them?

    Here are a few questions......for economy/coach

    Maximum miles permitted?
Do these miles accrue FF miles on other Star A airlines e.g. Air Canada?

From what I know about this fare:

All travel must be on SQ only, and in either eastern or western direction.

    no backtracking

and also you can't book the First Suites on A380, you get J on it (even if booked in F).

Of course you could credit miles to any *A partner, especially if booked J or F. For Y booking, I suppose there could be some *A partners that don't give full credit.

I believe some stopovers are permitted

A sample routing might be: JFK/EWR - FRA - SIN - NRT - LAX or possibly you could do the IAH - DME segment instead of NYC - FRA.

These fares do accrue miles on other *A carriers; they book into a mile earning class (the SQ equivalent to M) but not an upgradable class and there is no maximum mileage permitted. You just need to use SQ for all flights in the same direction, no backtracking except in Europe. You can do JFK-FRA then LHR/CDG/MXP/etc....-SIN-HKG/ICN-SFO or NRT-LAX. Not sure if you can do IAH-DME then other EU-SIN flight.

However, if you call some of the sales office phone numbers listed on the website, the call is answered by the normal call center which I suspect is located in India.

SQ have had some 21 day advance purchase fares available lately.

The biggest problem I see with this is that only SQ travel is allowed. Combine that with no backtracking, and this means you might have to buy a lot of separate regional tickets.

I do believe in Business and First the tickets earn mileage with other star programs (at least with Miles&More)- books into D/A.

I bought a RTW trip on SQ just this week.

No backtracking at all, you must continue in an eastward or westward direction only, and you might need to get yourself to the next city, if it is not served by SQ.

You can combine J and F if necessary if you wish.

First flight date is fixed, but you can change the remaining legs in the itinerary for dates for free. Small changes might just have a small surcharge for taxes, I believe I was told.

Ticket is valid for 90 days.

SQ insists that you pay the phone $25 fee, even though you are required to call in to purchase this RTW fare.

I splurged :p and got the RTW for the following itinerary:
    EWR-SIN in J on the all J A340-500
    SIN-FRA in F on the 777
    FRA-JFK in F on the 747

They applied the F RTW fare to this and it was $7580 ai. Plus the $25 phone fee.
The J RTW fare was quoted to me at $7048, because they add extra taxes for YQ, I believe.

Anyway, on the 'new and NOT improved' SQ website I am unable to find the RTW fare promotion anymore... anyone else see it?

Sounds great, especially because with the JFK and EWR flights, you can make it into a real RT and not just an open jaw, as they apparently count EWR-SIN as going west.

When they say no backtracking, does this mean that one can only go through SIN once? This would seem to really limit things because all of their schedules are through SIN with the exception of the few flights that make stops in places like NRT, HKG, FRA, DME.

On one of my DL SQ award tickets, I did a sort of RTW but I didn't leave the airport in Europe. I had LAX-NRT-SIN-HKG (destination) HKG-SIN-FRA-JFK with DL segments MSP-LAX and JFK-MSP. The JFK-FRA-SIN and vv has much better arrival and departure times in SIN than does LAX-NRT-SIN and vv of the 747 services.

For JRTW, the actual $$$ you pay will be higher because of the surcharge on the new C seat. If time is not a priority, I would do the open jaw to get all in F. May be redeem an award to fly between east coast and west coast.
    It's nice to do:

    JFK (visiting VS Clubhouse)
    FRA 744
    SIN 77W
    NRT 77W
    LAX 77W
    LAX - JFK award tix
