Or paying for a couple of weddings at an SPG property? I don't even know if that would qualify :)

I have 870k points for 2 biz tickets LAX-Rome - terrible deal unless you completely lack schedule flexibility.

870k is LAX-FCO. However, at this point, it seems they literally purchased those rather than transfer miles and redeem. Could've likely had very comparable seats for one sixth of the price.

Just an FYI that Platinums will be receiving an additional, personalized experience as well.

If my maths are working, 800k points transfered 1:1 to any airline would net a million miles with the standard bonus -- assuming there's no crazy bonus from the airlines for incoming points transfers. 870k should then yield 1,060,000 miles... excuse me while I shake my head.

I can't even wrap my head around spending a million miles on 2 tickets, let alone business rather than first. Even with the outrageous redemption rates that Delta comes up with at times, this is just plain silly.

Almost makes me wanna play "stretch the SPG points" for a bit. What if you had 800k points to burn and BA was offering 30% bonuses, or US was offering 50-100% bonuses for incoming hotel transfers? I can probably go around the world twice in F, let alone halfway around in C. :)

Considering you can get the same pair of tickets 5 times over (or better) with multiple partners, yes there are better values. As there's no nonstop, you're connecting wherever you go, so it's not like they were doing something like paying a premium to get on a nonstop that never has award availability.

Interesting - regular graphic shows Westin Maui as the most popular redemption, but according to personalized graphic NY Sheraton is most popular platinum redemption (really?).

Alas, I am "not eligible" to see my personalized Platinum experience, says the web site.

If you are Platinum, try to give it another spin later. A few Platinum members have been successful after a second try.

Will this update as the year ends?

It thinks I only had 86 nights... I'm over 100 now. And it's several tens of thousands of points short. :D

Makes me think of the scene in Up in the Air when he orders multiple meals at once so as to spend the maximum amount permitted by company policy, to maximize points. That struck me as unethical since he had no intention of eating all that food.

Thanks for the answer... even if it's rather disappointing. Lots of stays and points for me in December... all the way through the 29th!

That's pretty nifty. I was somewhat surprised at the amount of earn I'd managed to bring in. Nothing like a million points, but a nice tally as an "official SPG Points Stasher" even after some nice redemptions.

We noticed your comments about how cancelled award stays were inflating your earning numbers, so we made an update to our database to which should make this less confusing.

That's probably correct. Regular redemptions would cover everybody, platinum redemptions would only cover platinum. Most platinum's and probably already been to Hawaii, and preferred the opulence of New York.
