Does SPG ever have a sign up bonus for more than 25,000? I want to get the card, but 25,000 just seem all that worth it. Thanks!!

In July 2011 there was a 30,000 point bonus. None that high since. You do get 1.25 miles when you transfer in increments of 20,000 points to your airline of choice. Perhaps that will make it worth your while.

I believe there was a 30K bonus just a couple months ago as well. Odds are there will be a 30K bonus again at some point, but this is one of the few cards that 25K is actually a pretty valuable number.

What the hip Mom says is right. SPG points are very, very valuable when properly used for redemption. I would compare them to about 60k Marriott points.

You can redeem them for nights with as few as 2-3k (very limited selection) but my favorite feature is Cash+Points. You can get a $400 room in Europe for 4000 points + 80$.

Hold out for the 30K offer unless you are desperate for the points.

If you have a significant other, you could sign-up, get the card, refer your other and get 10k bonus points (5k higher than the typical referral through the amex promo running). If you don't need the points though, hold out.

There was a 30k offer ending in July 2010(1k spend in 3months) and two different 30k offers in 2011(4.5k spend in 3months ending mid-Aug and 5k spend in 6months ending mid-Dec). I would also suggest waiting for it unless you need the points now.

It is interesting to see how the minimum spend for the big bonus keeps changing. I guess amex is still shaken after the end of the mint deal.
